Create the Environment. You are the Attitude Coach.
3. Be prepared.
Study. Plan ahead.
The more prepared you are, the fewer problems you’ll have.
Nothing shows worse than being unprepared. It’s a trust buster.
4. Be consistent.
Be tough, but fair.
“They don’t wear their jerseys in the weight room.”
Hold all accountable. Regarding rules and effort, don’t play favorites.
5. “Inspect what you expect.” Z. Ziglar
If you expect the ditch to be dug correctly…you’d better check it.
Don’t grow complacent.
6. Pick up your weights.
Your facility reflects program pride. Make the athletes help.
7. Squat, low and often.
Strength is the foundation of the athleticism pyramid. Squats dug the foundation and are a great attitude lift.
8. Be excited and recognize athlete’s successes.
Recognize success formally and informally (ex: award boards, t-shirts, verbal)
9. Ask athletes about their goals, families, and school work. Then listen!
Ask about things other than sports and strength.
You’ll learn and they’ll begin to trust. Be human.
10. Hit the reset button before going through the door at home.
Never take your frustrations out on your family.
They go through enough waiting for you.
